I can't help but fill you in on this year's Christmas tree assembly! David & I have been anticipating this Christmas due to the childrens' ages. With that being said, Mommy couldn't help but requesting carols and sippin wine obviously equally giddy; nervous, but giddy. Daddy, well, he was ready and willing to be the grunt of all the un-packing and discipline re-enforcement.
First, is the PreLit 3pc. Artificial, 7.5ft narrow pine. We have been informed that we will never own a prelit again if they continue to wire them in such a fashion. Daddy's yelling at the lights as Nina is (passing through on her way home) managing the top portion, Mommy weilding the middle section, and Daddy on the bottom as the ring leader. Kids are steadily building a fort out of linens from EACH bed in the house. Sadie, no stranger to "guidance", made sure she kept the situation far from having our attention. Then, Roxi discovers the soft pallet of clean cotton, and barking, screaming, and crying ensues. Mommy, by this point has been re-assuring Daddy that we can still have Christmas, the world is not over & he can beat that crazy wiring. Well, Mommy has to divert her affection, I mean attention, to the pile of bodies in the corner. It looked like Jiffy Pop on the stovetop. Got that sorted out & put everyone in jammies, turned on Shrek the Halls. As you may have expected, out come the ornaments but only when Clark Griswold finally figured out the faulty light wiring. Nina had left by this point and headed for higher ground. Fortunately, Daddy secures Everett after he refuses to head the "don't touch" warnings. Now, it's Sadie and Me. Decorate the tree. A tradition in the making, I knew it would remain this way for several years to come, and I relished in watching that little bit "thread" hooks on even the most precious of my ornaments. Frightfully, I handed her each one as I sat next to her, telling her the story of each one. As she touched each one, hard as she tried, she lacked the grace of an older, steadier grip. Of course I was on defense and prevented anything from breaking. It seemed where she lacked in grace, she compensated with the sincerest respect to each ornament's memory as she placed it on the tree. Making sure it got the attention it deserved. Magical. Getting her to sleep that night was the hardest I believe it's ever been. Daddy was fast asleep while she was still peeking at me around the corner.

I took this picture close to 11pm, not long after I last seen her. She's holding her very first Christmas tree that I bought to put in her room when she was 2 months old. I wonder what we will be faced with on Christmas Eve? I remember my excitement my mom pulled out the Christmas decorations. I remember the box of lights making everyone feel like they were the characters from A Christmas Story. That was definitely us tonight. I just hope Daddy doesn't get a hankering for one of those leg lights.
